Digicel announced yesterday that it has signed an agreement to acquire Claro Jamaica.
In a press release, the mobile giant said a deal was signed with América Móvil to acquire its Claro business in Jamaica, and in return, Digicel will sell its businesses in El Salvador and Honduras to América Móvil.
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, however, Digicel is set to receive a net cash payment.
Head of Digicel's Group Public Relations, Antonia Graham, told The Gleaner that the finalisation of the deal is subject to approval in all three markets. "Until then, there will be no impact on Claro customers. It will be business as usual. Once approved, and at the appropriate time, we will make further announcements."
The deal is expected to be completed within the second quarter of this year.
Digicel has been operating in Jamaica for the past 10 years, and has expanded its operations to several countries.
