New gourmet shop showcases the best of Jamaica

Celebrating its opening with an exclusive tasting event of luxury treats from MoBay Chocolate Company, Sugar & Spice Trading Company officially opened its doors at The Palmyra Resort & Spa Clubhouse on Monday, March 28.

With the tag line 'artisan crafted, seasonal, farm fresh, exotic delights', Sugar & Spice Trading Company offers customers gourmet fare with a Jamaican twist. States Stefanie Parey-Smith, commerce and merchandising director for The Palmyra Resort & Spa, "Our goal is to showcase the amazing products and artisan items Jamaica has to offer, while making sure we cater to both locals and tourists who are looking for gourmet items in this part of Jamaica."

Another pioneering addition to the elegant area of Rose Hall, Sugar & Spice Trading Company's product lines highlight several well-known Jamaican products, such as Appleton Rum, Red Stripe, Busha Browne, Belcor Honey, Jablum Coffee and Marley Coffee, as well as many other special finds from the island's bounty. Says Rohan Marley of Marley Coffee, "We are very happy to be working with Sugar & Spice Trading Company and could not be happier of how the brands complement each other. We see this as the first of many products which Sugar & Spice Trading Company will be the first to offer in Montego Bay."

Serving coffee, tea, juices, sandwiches and salads, the management team hopes the spot becomes a gathering place for people to meet, have a coffee and a bite to eat in a relaxing atmosphere. Explains Parey-Smith, "We are playing on the trading company theme throughout our store, offering limited tastings and specials, which will be marketed on our website as the items become available."

The new gourmet shop is inviting customers to a wine-tasting event sponsored by 1876 Wines on Saturday, April 23, from 5-7 p.m. Says Paul Hanworth from 1876 Wines, "We are delighted to be Sugar & Spice Trading Company's preferred wine partner and look forward to a long relationship with The Palmyra Resort & Spa, whose drive and desire for quality and excellence resonates perfectly with our own. We expect that our wines will appeal to the broad spectrum of Sugar & Spice Trading Company's patrons and will bring Jamaica's north coast an exciting new selection of wines not previously available."

Former Miss Jamaica World Yendi Phillipps and Rohan Marley were among the first visitors to the new gourmet shop. "I was pleased to be part of the opening of the new shop, especially with Marley Coffee and Sugar & Spice Trading Company. It's always thrilling to see new Jamaican products being created and developed," states Phillipps.

Located on 16 acres of pristine waterfront land in Montego Bay, The Palmyra A Solis Resort & Spa is the first luxury resort and residential community in Jamaica. A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, The Palmyra provides a lush private sanctuary for a luxury vacation or a second home.
