THE EDITOR, Sir:
In an article published in the May 7 edition of The Gleaner titled 'Christie hits obstacles in getting info on JDIP', the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) cites obstructions in executing the duties of that office.
The OCG needs to clearly state the nature of these obstructions. Simply stating 'certain obstacles' is not good enough. The public should demand untethered specifics at all times from the OCG. If he has something to say, it should be presented clearly and not made to appear that the office is also hiding something.
The OCG has been encountering these 'certain obstacles' since September 2010. It's about time these 'obstacles' are defined. If the CG is encountering difficulties in getting information to the public through the print media, he needs to be assigned a scheduled spot - weekly or monthly - on radio or TV - through which he could report his findings and difficulties to the nation unobstructed.
Without clarity, the OCG will eventually lose credibility and thereafter need to be disbanded.
