The nation has its say

Below are excerpted comments from readers of www.jamaica-gleaner.com in response to yesterday's lead story 'WikiLeaks Secrets! Busted'.

I have been saying for months that everything the PM says is a lie, regardless of which skin he is wearing. He needs to pack and he needs to go. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not next month or next year. Now.

It is time to forgive Bruce Golding and move ahead. There has been some positive effects of the Dudus incident. The murder rate went sky high under the PNP and is going lower under the JLP.

- Dan

Now that we know Bruce Golding is talking from two sides of his mouth, I think it's about time Bruce pack up and go for deceiving the Jamaican populace. He should be impeached and charged for the 73 citizens who were murdered last May, although they were willing to die for their so-called 'President'.

- Guest

Bruce Golding now has the opportunity to show his true love for the rights of all Jamaicans by resigning. Leadership must set the example. What lessons we would all learn, as a nation, from this example!

- Ashtonepitt

I agree that this is an excellent move by The Gleaner. Surely, we have to agree with K.D. Knight's characterisation of our soon-to-be-former prime minister. One of the tragedies in all this is that so many people placed so much hope in BG. Sigh.

- Taneda Brooks

Yaaaaawwwnn. All of this is stale news. Bruce Golding and the JLP may not be perfect, but at least they are doing a far better job of running the country than the PNP, especially in these difficult times which are being experienced worldwide. When last, for example, has crime gone down so significantly and effectively?

They, at least, are trying to save the country as compared to others who, when in power, seemed hell-bent on destroying it.

- Man of Justice

Dis man nah resign. He gonna be there till them sun him. The ongle way him vacate is if di whole a we march pon Jamaica House and demand it. And I mean at least 500,000 people. And dat nah go happen.

- Mario James

It is time that Bruce take his own advice. He is nothing but a disgrace to himself and his country. In any decent democracy, the prime minister or leader would have stepped aside for the good of the country and allowed some healing from all this sideshow.

It begs the question: Is there anyone in the party/Government grown up enough to say enough is enough? Perhaps not. They are too busy arguing with judges; cursing out newspapers and reporters; and lying to the people.

- The Rain Man

What a bombshell! This revelation is the final nail in the PM's coffin. The characterisation of the prime minister as two-faced is an insult. If this is how he is viewed by the USG - and no doubt by others - he needs to do what is expected: resign. Thanks, Gleaner and WikiLeaks, for this most embarrassing story.

- Mccormacklindel

As WikiLeaks has noted in its disclosure: "It can not verify the truthfulness or accuracy of all cables." Does it even cross people's mind that the US government could have released these for the purpose of propaganda, or regime change, if you will, because the current admin does not suit its interest? Bruce is no saint but, I don't trust politicians neither here nor in the US. The US has been proven time and again to be purveyors of lies.

- Steve

Great move in publishing these cables, Gleaner! Hopefully, the individual or individuals who financed the retainer fees for Manatt, Phelps & Phillips will be exposed by these cables. Jamaica needs to know who financed the law firm and why!

- Estebanagostoreid777

I can see The Gleaner will not stop battering the prime minister and the JLP. Is The Gleaner a political paper? Is it possible that WikiLeaks is lying also?
