THE UNITED States Embassy in Kingston has refused to comment on the content of the cables acquired by the non-profit international media entity WikiLeaks and which are being published by The Gleaner.

"As a matter of policy, the US government does not comment on the contents of these alleged cables that purport to include classified information," the embassy said in response to a request for a comment from The Gleaner.

"The US Embassy condemns in the strongest terms the deliberate and unauthorised disclosure of information represented as classified materials by individuals and organisations which put lives at risks and jeopardises our national interests."

The cables from Kingston are part of more than 250,000 from around the world acquired by WikiLeaks.
