It was showers of blessings in cool cool Mandeville, Manchester, when Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) coastguard Trevor Copeland Jr tied the knot with Donnette Brown on June 5.

The bride entered the Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church to Darnel Zchech's Everything about you, accompanied by her father, Lawrence Brown.

The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Thomas Bryan.

Brown, who is a radiographer at the Mandeville Regional Hospital, met Copeland while she was an intern at the hospital. Their relationship blossomed and two years later they made it permanent.

Over the years, they built their relationship via numerous and lengthy telephone conversations, as Copeland works in Port Royal. "We never let the distance bother us, we are happy; we did everything together, whether we were together or are apart, we literally live on our phones," noted the blushing bride.

The bridal party wore olive green and chocolate outfits from Dream Wedding and Spencer's Tailoring, while the groom wore the JDF infantry number-one uniform.

The reception

While the bridal party took photos at the Mandeville Hotel, guests strolled over to the church hall for the reception. There they listened to the soothing sounds of saxophonist Euwayne Miller, while they enjoyed fruit punch.

The room was given a romantic flair with the tables adorned in olive green and chocolate brown overlays, and centrepieces of white roses and carnations.

Master of ceremonies, Samuel Wen guided the programme and kept guests entertained.

The elegant three-tiered wedding cake, created by Richard Epson, was blessed by Sonny Brown, mother of the bride. During the cutting of the cake, it was obvious that communication was not a problem for the couple. It took them five minutes of negotiating how to cut the cake, followed by more negotiation on the correct way to feed each other, much to the delight of the guests.

During the groom's response, he surprised his bride by dedicating Bruno Mars Just the way you are to her. For this, he was rewarded with a dance and a kiss, which led to the opening of the dance floor.

The two honeymooned at the Gran Bahía Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, St Ann.
