Arthur Guinness was an Irish brewer and the founder of the Guinness brewery family business. He was an entrepreneur, visionary and philanthropist who laid the foundation for the brewery.
At 27, in 1752, Arthur's godfather Arthur Price, the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Cashel, bequeathed him £100 in his will. Guinness invested the money and in 1755 founded a brewery at Leixlip, close to Dublin.
In 1759, Arthur made the bold move to the city and set up his own business, making history when he invested his entire inheritance in a 9,000-year lease on the four-acre brewery at St James's Gate in Ireland.
Thanks to Arthur, persons have been enjoying Guinness beer for 252 years.
In the Caribbean, many islands will be celebrating Arthur's Day in local bars, featuring live performances by local talent, prizes and drink specials. Across the region, Arthur Guinness Day Live TV simulcast will present the best emerging talent in soca, dancehall and reggae in concert.
Last year, the Arthur Guinness Day Celebrations in the Caribbean culminated with a historic concert held at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. No tickets were made available for sale and over 16,000 Guinness consumers were rewarded with access to the event, only after purchasing Guinness and winning their tickets.
