GLEANER ASSOCIATE Editor, Byron Buckley, has been elected second vice-president of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM).

Buckley, immediate past president of the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ), along with six regional colleagues, were installed at the 10th General Assembly of the ACM last Wednesday in Roseau, Dominica.

Regional journalist Wesley Gibbings was re-elected president for a third consecutive two-year term. Other officers elected at the Assembly were:

  • Peter Richards, Trinidad and Tobago, first vice-president;
  • Nicole Best, Grenada, general secretary.
  • Clive Bacchus, St Kitts & Nevis, assistant general secretary;
  • Bert Wilkinson, Guyana, floor member;
  • Jewel Forde, Barbados, floor member.

In extending congratulations to Buckley, PAJ president Jenni Campbell expressed confidence that his "expertise in training and professional development will redound to the benefit of media practitioners across the region".

Campbell was one of several representatives of media associations from 10 countries who attended the ACM Assembly in Dominica.

The ACM promotes journalism, media development and freedom of expression across the Caribbean. This is done through advocacy, training and professional development as well as supporting independent media development.
