UWI Pelicans hosted and got the better of UTech, Ja Knights in male and female matches, with UWI Pelicans winning the males match 3-2 and the female encounter 4-1, as the Intercol Table Tennis League continued earlier this week.

In the third match played, G.C. Foster trounced hosts Excelsior 4-1 in a males contest.

After this round of matches, in the male section, UWI Pelicans lead the standings with seven points, ahead of G.C. Foster on six points, UTech, Ja Knights with five points, Mico three points and Excelsior two points.

UWI Pelicans have completed their fixtures, while the other four teams have one match each left to play. The top-four finishers will advance to the semi-finals.

In the female section, UWI Pelicans have four points, with UTech, Ja Knights and G.C. Foster securing one point each. UWI have completed their fixtures, while the other two teams have one match each remaining. The top two teams will contest the final.

UTech, Ja Knights are the defending male champions, while UWI Pelicans are the defending female champions.

In individual results in the UWI versus UTech, Ja Knights female contest, national representatives Tracy-Ann Dattadeen, Yvonne Foster (national champion) and Shenique Clare scored easy 3-0 victories over Yoland Morris, Sodia Peters and Latoya Lynch respectively, for UWI. In doubles, Foster and Clare overwhelmed Jamilla Fairweather and Lynch 3-0, for UWI's fourth win. Fairweather turned back Anita Mahadio 3-1 to pull one back for UTech, Ja Knights.

In the UWI/UTech, Ja Knights males encounter, Jason Welsh trounced Kimatte Stanrad 3-0, Darren Salmon outplayed Matthew Kitson 3-1 and Saeed Thomas won by default for UWI's three wins.

National player Simon Tomlinson overpowered Darrell Gordon 3-0 in singles and teamed with Kitson in doubles action to beat Salmon and Gordon 3-1 for UTech, Ja Knights two consolation triumphs.

In the male match between G.C. Foster and Excelsior, Kemall Russell, former national youth representative Shayne Frost and Odane Keane cruised pass Alex Levy, Rahanda Russell and Chad Philp, respectively, with 3-0 scores in singles matches. Russell and Frost crushed Rahanda Russell and Kareem Tyndale 3-0 in doubles for G.C. Foster's fourth win. Tyndale won by default, to earn Excelsior's consolation victory.

The League continues next Thursday at 3 p.m., with the playing of the last round of preliminary-round matches.
