Businesses to benefit from Cloud technology
MONTEGO BAY, St James:Business owners and their information and communications technology (ICT) managers from western Jamaica and Ocho Rios, St Ann, gained first-hand exposure to Cloud telephony, the latest technology suite being offered to the business community.
Telecommunications provider Digicel, which officially launched its Cloud Strategy Roadshow at The Ritz-Carlton Resort and Spa in Montego Bay last Thursday, is pioneering the move in keeping with its mandate of offering businesses a complete solution for their ICT needs.
"This strategy is aimed at bringing lower ICT services costs to Jamaica-based businesses. We provide all the technology, network access, and support services. The services are on demand and are offered on a subscription basis," explained business development manager at Digicel, Tom O'Neill.
He said the facility, which houses its Cloud technology in Caymanas, St Catherine, is built to withstand disasters, including fire and earthquake. This, he said, has been tier-three certified by the Uptime Institute as the most secure facility in the Caribbean.
Digicel will soon launch its Office In A Box service.
Commercial director at Digicel, Jason Corrigan, added that last week's launch provided an opportunity for Digicel Business to reaffirm its commitment to highlighting and introducing the latest and best innovations and technology to their corporate client base while playing an active role in making Jamaica the ICT hub of the Caribbean.
Lowering costs
Cloud technology is being offered in partnership with CISCO and offers the delivery of software, infrastructure, and data storage via the Internet, according to Garfield Gordon, CISCO's territorial systems engineer.
O'Neill and Corrigan concurred that with the increase in small and medium businesses, companies that may not be able to invest in huge technology deployment could now utilise the same technology at a lower cost to meet market competition.
