  • No impact on overseas operations

American Airlines advised yesterday that its bankrupcy filings in the United States would have no direct legal impact on the airline's operations outside the United States.

At the same time, the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) said that American Airlines recently applied for an additional landing permit amid its announcement to file for bankruptcy, an indication that the filings would have no immediate impact on its operation in Jamaica.

The airline continued to operate normally in the island, and only recently it applied to the JCAA for an additional permit, said Nicole Robinson-Hutchinson, public relations officer at the Civil Aviation Authority, without elaborating.

American Airlines operates flights into and out of the island from the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
