JOHNSON TOWN, Hanover:An 85-year-old pensioner perished in a fire that completely destroyed his one-room board house in Johnson Town, Hanover, on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Stafford Fowler.

His daughter, Hilda Fowler, who lived a short distance away, said that she had just left him and returned to her own home when she received the news.

"I was up here talking to him and me leave and go down and was watching the eight o'clock news when somebody called me and say me father house on fire," the daughter said.

At press time, fire investigators had not ascertained the cause of the fire. But Miss Fowler is adamant that it was not the lamp, which her father used for lighting, since there was no oil in it.
