MONTEGO BAY, St James:Jamaica's culinary mastery will take centre stage in March in Yardy Cribs Production's cooking show Battle of the Chefs. In this show, local chefs will vie for a $200,000 prize and a spot to work in one of New York's finest restaurants.
"We want to expose the culinary skills of our local chefs and offer them a platform to market their culinary skills to a local and international audience while providing our viewers with entertainment," said Yardy Cribs' executive producer, Keadian Martin.
She further said that the production company was also in discussions with a local television station to air the culinary show.
"I can't recall in recent memory where Jamaica has had one of these kinds of TV shows. We are intent on organising an excellent programme that suits a wide demographic while helping persons to appreciate the culinary arts," Martin added.
More than reggae
"Jamaica is more than just reggae music. We are internationally renowned for our food, especially the jerked chicken, and so we seek to capture those elements of our culinary arts in a real, fun, and informative manner."
Battle of the Chefs will see three chefs competing each week in a 16-episode production. It will be done in a reality-television format where viewers get a chance to experience an authentic journey of these chefs vying for the title.
"We have partnered with a great restaurant in New York in doing Battle of the Chefs. We think for any chef that will win money, that is important, but international experience adds value to your culinary credentials and it will give the chef who wins the opportunity to be exposed to various cuisines," the executive producer added.
Chefs who are interested in securing their spots on the cooking show must submit an application by January 15.
Interested persons can fill out an application form at www.yardycribs.com, or call (876) 378-0334. Registration costs $8,000.
