FORMER FINANCE Minister Audley Shaw has urged the Government to continue the macroeconomic programme which was started by the recently replaced Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration.
According to Shaw, the JLP created the macro-economic stability needed for growth and the People's National Party (PNP) administration should not waste a golden opportunity.
"We believe that the change of government ... comes at a time when significant achievements have been racked up by the previous admini-stration in terms of attaining a significant measure of stability in the Jamaican economy," Shaw told journalists at a media briefing yesterday.
"And it is very important that for the long-term sustainability of the economy that the gains that have been achieved are not squandered," added Shaw.
The man who served as finance minister for fours years used the media briefing to urge his successor, Dr Peter Phillips, to continue the programmes of the previous administration.
"I am urging the new minister of finance that where it ain't broke, don't fix it. What Jamaica needs now is a sustained period of economic stability so that the private sector can feel confident and comfortable in investing in Jamaica."
