Western Bureau:With two slots in the competition's mid-season finals still up for grabs, joint zone leaders Granville FC and Wadadah FC and Zone B front-runner Savannah FC will all be seeking to consolidate when action resumes in the 2011-12 Captain's Bakery & Grill Western Super Football League tomorrow afternoon.
Wadadah, who joined Granville atop the Zone A standings this past Sunday when they defeated Jericho Rangers 2-1 to move up to 11 points, will be aiming for yet another win when they lock horns with Catherine Hall FC (9) in their big Montego Bay derby at the UDC playing field.
Granville FC, who led Zone One going into the Christmas break but surprisingly lost 2-1 to Invaders FC in their last game, will be seeking to rebound when they play host to the inconsistent Jericho Rangers (5) at the Sam Sharpe Teachers' College grounds.
"We played badly against Invaders FC and it cost us our unbeaten record, which we so badly wanted to hold on to," said Granville FC's manager Tracey Reid. "We have evaluated that performance and the players all agree that it was not up to expectations."
In their game, surprise Zone B leaders Savannah FC (15), fresh from a 2-1 win against Montpelier FC on Tuesday, will be aiming to put more distance between themselves and second-place Bamboo FC (11) when they play away to third-place Harmony (8) at the Bounty Hall Community Centre.
confidence
In other scheduled games, Frome FC (7) will battle Invaders SC in Zone A game, while second-place Bamboo FC (10) oppose Fogo United (6), and Tomorrow's People and Montpelier, both on three points, square off in Zone Two action.
In their game against Catherine Hall FC, Wadadah should be full of confidence on account of the momentum gained in their 2-1 win against Jericho Rangers in their last outing. In what was a clinical performance, Wadadah actually led 2-0 at half-time behind goals from player/coach Daniel Rickettes and Derrick Allen.
"We are now playing pretty good football and confidence in the team is very high," said Allen. "Our aim is to win this competition and then qualify for the Red Stripe Premier League, and we believe it is something we can accomplish."
