Popular female jockey Georgina Sergeon was hurt in a spill at Caymanas Park yesterday and had to be rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital for observation.
After riding two winners up to the sixth race, Sergeon and her mount, TRICKY TRAIN (9-1), went down among a wall of horses at the home turn in the seventh race over 1200 metres for $180,000 claimers.
She suffered a horrific fall when TRICKY TRAIN fell entering the straight and also brought down SHEER BLISS dislodging her rider Jevanne Erwin as well.
Sergeon was taken from the track and rushed via ambulance to the First Aid Post where she was examined by the doctor on duty. According to reports, she complained of a pain in her lower back and was rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
As a result of the incident, there was a very lengthy stewards' inquiry, in which first-past-the post DOLLAR WIN (13-1), under former champion jockey Omar Walker, was disqualified and placed last for causing interference to TRICKY TRAIN entering the straight and the race awarded to 6-1 chance CLASSY KELLY, with Richard Lunan aboard.
On a day when trainer Gary Subratie saddled three winners, Sergeon had earlier won aboard 3-1 chance EXPLOSIVE DANCER for trainer Deon Facey in the second race and 8-5 second favourite SHE'S TRADITIONAL for trainer Fitzroy Glispie in the sixth for maiden three-year-olds to push her career tally to 55 wins in this her final year as an apprentice. She started riding on September 2, 2009.
Subratie's hat-trick of wins included the highly fancied debutante TRINITHETUTOR (2-1), with Walker astride, in the Eight Thirty Sprint feature for three-year-old maiden fillies over the straight five course.
Owned by Ranford Randall and bred by Trevor James, the attractive bay filly by Ghost Ransom out of the Conquistator Cielo mare Kathythetraina made most in mid-track to win by two lengths from PLEASURE TRAIN (24-1) and evens favourite FLY FOR PLEASURE in a field of 14.
Subratie said he was confident of winning first time of asking as the filly had pleased in her preparation.
"My association with her has an interesting history. I used to train her for former owner Kenval Wallace, but both she and RONRON were transferred by the owner to the Wayne DaCosta stables last summer, before the current owner was persuaded to buy her from Wallace.
"She returned to my care about four months ago and progressed along the right lines. So this was no surprise and I can tell you, she has good classic prospects, added Subratie who also posted the American three-year-old filly NOON IT IS under leading jockey Dane Nelson to win the opening race and the front running CLASSIC BEAU (8-1) who made all with Carlton Malcolm riding for Ranford Randall in the fifth over 1600 metres for overnight allowance horses.
