Porteous installation postponed

The investiture ceremony for Custos of Manchester Sally Porteous has been put on hold.

Porteous was scheduled to be installed today, but in a release yesterday afternoon, King's House advised that the installation was being put on hold to facilitate further consultations in the parish.

Porteous has been facing opposition from justices of the peace (JPs) and residents who claim her appointment is political.

She was hastily sworn in as a JP just before the appointment.

JPs recently sent a petition to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen asking him to reconsider the appointment.

Some JPs have threatened to resign and others say they will not cooperate with Porteous.
