Honour the legacy of Garvey

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Our organisation, Spanish Town Citizens Against Gun Violence, wishes to congratulate Education Minister Ronald Thwaites on his plan to introduce texts with the teachings of Marcus Garvey, our first national hero, in our schools. This has been so long in the making, it shows what an open mind can do when one starts to think outside the box.

We, as Garveyites, are looking forward to the time when Mr Garvey's prison cell in Spanish Town will be available for tours for all to see at the St Catherine District Prison on White Church Street.

We are currently trying to find out how we can secure a diary of the daily events of his stay at the prison. The commissioner could not help us with that three years ago. We need the records.
