Anti-gay tripe

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I see many problems with Esther Tyson's thesis in her article, 'The gay agenda and the rights of Christians', published in The Sunday Gleaner of February 5, especially where she implies that majority rule should decide who is discriminated against.

Governments must exist to protect the rights of all, and many Christian denominations embrace and celebrate each person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

I believe this is consistent with the teachings of Jesus: love your neighbour; welcome the stranger; and do not judge.

Children are particularly vulnerable to oppression and bigotry, and many gay/lesbian/transgender teenagers commit suicide because of the cruelty shown to them.

The time of masking discrimination with religious dogma, incendiary language or the fear of cultural imperialism is over.
