Windies players flop, but Samuels' team wins

DHAKA, Bangladesh (CMC):

West Indian players suffered rare failures in the Bangladesh Premier League yesterday, but batsman Marlon Samuels still managed to emerge on the winning side for Duronto Rajshahi in the night's feature encounter.

Playing at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Samuels managed just four as Rajshahi, chasing 146 for victory, reached their target with five balls to spare, to win by six wickets.

In the absence of Samuels's runs, Rajshahi got 52 from opener Shahzaib Hasan and an unbeaten 47 from captain Mushfiqur Rahim.

Rookie Windies fast bowling all-rounder Andre Russell finished with none for 25 from three overs.

Earlier, the exciting Dwayne Smith fell for 17, veteran West Indies batsman Shiv Chanderpaul failed with four, while Russell also got four after the Bengals opted to bat first.

It meant captain Shakib Al Hasan had to step up, scoring 44 off 26 balls.

In the earlier match at the same venue, Trinidad and Tobago seamer Kevon Cooper claimed one for 28 from his four overs as the Sylhet Royals went down by seven wickets to the Chittagong Kings.
