Head of Families Against State Terrorism, Yvonne McCalla Sobers, and former chairman of the Urban Development Corporation under the P.J. Patterson administration, Dr Vincent Lawrence, are among a number of persons appointed to chair government boards.
Lawrence has been appointed chairman of the Clarendon Alumina Production (CAP) Limited.
The nine-member board, chaired by Lawrence, will have its work cut out to sell the Government's 45 per cent share in the Jamalco alumina refinery.
This fiscal year, CAP is set to cost the country $5.3 billion.
McCalla Sobers, whose human-rights organisation often takes the security forces to task for alleged acts of brutality, has been appointed to chair the e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited, which is intended to improve the quality of education in high schools.
President of the Jamaica Theological Seminary, the Reverend Garnett Roper, was appointed to chair a second government board. Roper chairs the 14-member Rural Electrification Programme Limited Board. He is also chairman of the cash-strapped Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited.
