Caribeean Weekly Stock Report - February 20-24, 2012

Caribbean stocks ended the week of February 24 lower, fuelled by declines in manufacturing stocks and continued weakness in financials and junior market stocks.

For the week, 17,141,730 shares, valued at US$3,080,791 crossed the floors of the six stock exchanges across Caricom, with 15 stocks advancing, 72 stocks declining and 41 remaining unchanged. Jamaica Broilers was the volume leader with 7,055,617 shares being traded, Mayberry posted the largest gain of 9.24% for the week, while on the losing end, Pulse Investments fell 12.17%.

For the week, five of the CSX 30 stocks advanced, twenty declined and five were unchanged. The CSX 30 lost 5.90 points to close the week at 1,287.24, down 2.11% year to date. While there were gains for Mayberry Investments (9.24%) and Grace Kennedy (2.10%), the major Caricom stocks posted declines for the week.

There were losses for Caribbean Cement (10.27%), Sagicor (8.33%), Cable and Wireless Jamaica (4.78%), Finance Corporation (4.28%), Gleaner (3.31%), Carreras (3.03%), NCB Jamaica (1.10%) and Scotia Group Jamaica (1.06%).

On the junior market, two stocks advanced and ten declined. The CJSX lost 49.85 points to close the week at 1,642.82, down 9.58% for the year. While Lasco Financial posted a 1. 12% advance, there were losses for HoneyBun (9.22%), Lasco Manufacturing (7.94%), Caribbean Producers (2.77%), General Accident (2.30%), Access Financial Services (2.29%) and Lasco Distributors (1.61%).
