Just under 500 people have been nominated to contest the March 26 elections.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica said 478 candidates were nominated for the 228 parish councils and Kingston and St Andrew Corporation seats.

The governing People's National Party (PNP) did not nominate a candidate for the Riverside division in West Hanover. It nominated only 227 candidates.

On the other hand, the Jamaica Labour Party nominated a full slate of candidates - 228.

Both the PNP and JLP nominated candidates - George Lee and Keith Hinds respectively - for mayor of the municipality of Portmore.

Alrick Davis was also nominated as an independent candidate.

In the meantime, the Marcus Garvey People's Progressive Party has nominated six persons; the Ethiopian Family Reunion House has nominated one; and the Jamaica Alliance Movement nominated one. There were 15 independent candidates.
