Well done, Mr Rapley

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Congratulations to columnist John Rapley on a very interesting and seminal piece 'The end of the Third World' on May 7. I am surprised that it has not featured strongly in The Gleaner's responses, but hope that it was read and noticed.

The 'dismal science' is not so dismal after all! I now understand the importance of the observation of statistics in conjunction with documentation of current events and movements of populations. I hope our Government embraces the new opportunities.

I always read Mr Rapley's articles, and look forward to more like this one.
