Camelot hot for Derby

Flat racing is on at Goodwood, Haydock and Yarmouth today, while Catterick, Musselburgh and Towcester stage evening racing fixtures.

New York's Belmont Park and Finger Lakes offer simulcast racing from the United States.

Meanwhile, news coming out of England is that the 2000 Guineas winner CAMELOT and Dante Stakes winner BONFIRE are the top contenders for the upcoming Investec Derby over 12 furlongs at Epson on June 2.

Trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien, CAMELOT is currently the 4-5 favourite for the Derby with the Andrew Balding-trained BONFIRE at 5-1 in the ante-post market.

O'Brien, who is seeking his third Derby success following the victories of GALILEO (200-1) and HIGH CHAPARRAL (2002), could also be represented by IMPERIAL MONARCH, who was victorious in the Group 3 Classic Trial at Sandown Park on April 28.

CAMELOT, who impressed in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5, would become the 37th colt to complete the Guineas/Derby double and the first since SEA THE STARS in 2009.

Today at Goodwood in the 11th race over 11 furlongs, the Casco Cocked Hat Stakes (Listed Race), the marginal 13-8 favourite MICHAELANGELO (William Buick up) should win for trainer John Gosden, who saddled last year's winner MASKED MARVEL.
