Not good enough, Lisa

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The programme of what was the official launch of the Jamaica 50 theme song for this year's Independence celebration indicated that it was the official song. It is without any doubt that the original song was replaced on a political basis.

The new song was released and Jamaicans have basically rejected the song On a Mission, so the culture minister and the secretariat have now come out and declared that it was all a 'misunderstanding'.

We, as Jamaicans, may be a lot of things, but we certainly are no fools, and we have all right to demand more explanation and clarity from the authorities, specifically the culture minister, Lisa Hanna. Without any apology, this aspect of the country's celebration should not be on a political basis, and that is what being portrayed here!

Though we have a lot to achieve as a country, we are far too mature to be conducting national affairs as if we are a set of non-progressive elements. So, yes, we are demanding some answers in order to have clarity on the issue. It deserves not to be swept under the carpet.
