Caribbean stocks offered investors some slight relief from the losses for the year, as they staged a slight rally with the major indices closing the week higher.
For the week, 67,875,289 shares valued at US$8,430,562 crossed the floors of the six stock exchanges across Caricom, with 61 stocks advancing, 20 declining and 44 remaining unchanged.
Cable & Wireless Jamaica was the volume leader with 32,431,616 shares being traded, Banks DIH posted the largest gain for the week (10.86 per cent), while on the losing end, Ciboney fell 49.90 per cent.
For the week, 17 of the CSX 30 stocks advanced, eight declined and five were unchanged. The CSX 30 gained 1.67 points to close the week at 1,308.38, down 0.50 per cent year to date.
In the CSX 30 there were gains for Banks DIH (10.86 per cent), C&W Jamaica (6.29 per cent), Citizens Bank (5.21 per cent), Caribbean Cement (3.67 per cent), Mayberry (1.45 per cent), Agostinis (1.20 per cent) and Carreras (1.03 per cent). On the losing end Gleaner fell (5.79 per cent), National Enterprises (2.47 per cent), NCB Jamaica (1.92 per cent), JMMB (1.79 per cent) and Scotia Group Jamaica (1.46 per cent).
The misery continued on the junior market with five stocks advancing and seven declining. The CJSX lost 6.73 points to close the week at 1,5985.88, down 12.72 per cent for the year.
There were gains for Lasco Distributors (3.02 per cent) and Access Financial (1.86 per cent). On the losing end, Lasco Financial fell (5.71 per cent), Honey Bun (1.73 per cent), Lasco Manufacturing (3.99 per cent), AMG Packaging (2.44 per cent) and Honey Bun (1.97 per cent).
