Thanks, Les Green

This newspaper, like many Jamaicans, will be sorry to see Les Green leave our island.

For eight years, the Scotsman has been an assistant commissioner of police, one of the Britons recruited to help improve the professionalism of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The JCF is still a long way from what most Jamaicans wish it to be, but is far better at detecting and fighting crime than it used to be. It enjoys greater respect.

This is in no small part the result of the efforts of Les Green who - in an understated way, and not without pushback - introduced new techniques and skills to the force.
