Our athletes make us proud

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The recent national senior championships were simply spectacular. We in Jamaica are so blessed to have the problems we have. Who will win the men's 100m final in London - Bolt, Powell or Blake? This is not the worst problem in the world. There was a time when we would have been beating pot covers in the streets if a male athlete just made it to the finals at the Olympics. Ever since the great Asafa Powell broke new ground in local sprinting, everything has changed. Bolt is now the best sprinter in the world and it is another Jamaican, Yohan Blake, who poses the greatest threat to his titles. Then there are the remarkably talented women, Fraser-Pryce, Campbell-Brown, Walker and the rest.

We have a lot of problems in this country, but our crop of athletes gives us so much pride. It doesn't matter who win in London because, as a nation, we have already won.

PROUD JAMAICAN
