Hanna's failing grade skewed

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Your newspaper headline of July 4, 'Lisa gets failing grade', is misleading. I noted that youth leaders quoted by your writer, Livern Barrett, are more slanted towards educational pursuits and, consequently, need to be addressed by the minister of education.

Youth and Culture Minister Lisa Hanna is placing an emphasis on at-risk youth on the streets, in places of safety, those abused and molested, etc. These must be prioritised. Minister Hanna had pointed out these matters in her Sectoral Debate presentation to Parliament on Tuesday.

While the youth population in the education system is also in need of attention, especially with fees up to the tertiary level, that is a challenge for the minister of education and the minister of finance. We all share this concern, as it is easier to run an educated nation.

Youth leaders need to review their evaluation. This, also, shows there is need to have civics taught.
