BIRMINGHAM, England:

The management team at Jamaica's pre-Olympic training camp here at the University of Birmingham, will in days submit to the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) their recommendation for Jamaica's flag-bearer at this Friday's London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

The camp's hierarchy yesterday announced, however, that long-serving sprinters Michael Frater and Novlene Williams-Mills were assigned as male and female track team captains, respectively, following a meeting between the team's management team and the athletes.

Whereas the decision of who serves as track-team captains is left entirely up to the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, the final say on who carries the nation's flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will have to be rubber-stamped by the JOA.

Team manager Ludlow Watts confirmed to The Gleaner that a name would be proposed to the JOA in a "couple days", but would not say who was the recommended athlete.

Triple Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt is believed to be the likely candidate.
