THE HOT Downtown Sizzling Summer Savings event ends today with Saturday shoppers promised more great deals.

Vendors inside St William Grant Park and merchants in the business district have noted positive feedback from shoppers. Michael Ammar Jr of Ammar's was very pleased.

"Thursday (day one) was excellent, a lot better than we thought," he said. He said Friday's sales went well, especially at the adult clothes store at King Street.

Like other shoppers, Audrey Lewis was out looking for her Jamaican colours. "I've already got my flag, so I'm looking for my blouse now. There's an air or something about the event. It's like everyone is out shopping."

Other merchants like fashion store Image, on Orange Street, were also reporting a good turnout with more shoppers expected today.

CARNIVAL-LIKE ATMOSPHERE

Vendors say the excitement and numbers in the park pick up in the evenings, a carnival-like atmosphere taking over.

"Things were fun with Stone Love playing," said Dianne Smith, who handled the registration and placement of vendors for the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation. "The shoppers aren't complaining, and the vendors wouldn't mind if we do it more often."

After the sale ends at 9 tonight, shoppers will be treated to the free Gleaner Icons Concert at South Parade.
