The Parliament will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica's Independence with a joint meeting of the Senate and House of Representatives on Thursday.

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen will address the Parliament.

The ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m., will see the attendance of former senators and members of parliament.

In the meantime, the Houses of Parliament have undertaken several activities to mark Jamaica 50.

The first phase of activities featured the beautification of the precincts of Gordon House.

The Library of Parliament has also mounted an exhibition titled 'Fifty Years of Parliamentary Tradition', which highlights significant moments in the parliamentary life of independent Jamaica.
