Ernesto threatened to rain on our parade but the Jamaican colours and pride shone through. Days leading up to Jamaica's golden jubilee had us showcasing the national colours wherever we went. They were worn to bid diplomats farewell and showcased on the fashion stage. We never forgot the parties in-between, with birthdays celebrated in the west and the prime minister hosting her own get-together to watch the Olympic 100-metre men's final.
Some of us screamed, cried and the prime minister prayed - all in all Independence was bright.
