MONTEGO BAY, St James:
Just over 30 Nigerian medical doctors were in the island recently to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The doctors were from the 1987 batch of medical students who graduated from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.
The doctors meet every five years and choose Montego Bay, Jamaica, to celebrate the recent milestone. The doctors have practices all over the world, including Jamaica.
Local practitioners doctors Adeniyi Bamidele and Olajide Adekeye were the cordinators of the event, which took place at the Sunset Beach Hotel recently.
The four days included visits to some local landmarks, professional lectures and addresses.
The highlight of the reunion was a banquet in which their pledge of US$10,000 to their alma mater was almost realised. Through pledges from the doctors and friends, 75 per cent of the total was reached. Professor Ayotunde John Bewaji made an enlightening presentation at this banquet.
Most of the doctors in attendance took their spouses and children, as was the request of the organisation.
