Jordon's mountain feat

Former Jamaica Defence Force officer and celebrity-model-turned-mountaineer Darren Jordon has chalked up yet another mountaineering feat, when he successfully made it to the top of Switzerland's landmark peak, the Matterhorn. At 14,690 feet (4,478 metres), the Matterhorn is one of Europe's most recognised landmarks and is generally regarded as one of the mountaineering world's toughest and most challenging climbs. For Jordon, it comes on the heels of having also successfully scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and Italy's highest peak, the Gran Paradiso.

Then the charming Verna Valentine, the fab marketing manager of the Hi-Lo chain, is gung-ho about this weekend's culinary exposition at their Manor Park, Hi-Lo store, which will be showcasing a culinary exposition like no other.

Kanya Amorntheerakul, director of Thai Trade Centre, Miami, in collaboration with businesswoman and social powerhouse, Honorary Consul-General of Thailand Thalia Lyn, will be hosting a culinary first starting today, showcasing the talent of Thai Chef Mayuree Saipetch. This promises to change the way foodies approach Thai cuisine here in Jamaica.

Then, the Venezuelan ambassador His Excellency Noel Martinez Ochoa, took his leave of our shores on Wednesday of this week and, with that, demitted office as dean of the Diplomatic Corps. His successor is His Excellency Hiroshi Yamaguchi, the ambassador of Japan.

And so, we say bon voyage to Ambassador Martinez Ochoa and his family and mon congrats to Ambassador Yamaguchi.

And the fabulous Nicole Haughton is all set to return to the Jamaica Tourist Board in October as her secondment to the Jamaican embassy in Berlin comes to an end in September.

Good move all around.

My daahlings, it's definitely the age of Virgo, and luvs, there are a-plenty. Then on Sunday, the 26th, the partying moved into overdrive with those celebrating including Twin brothers Desmond and Donald Panton; Fay Kessler; the lovely  Sherida Dujon; the enterprising Ricky Chin; the beautiful Stephanie Sullivan over in the Port Antonio; the lovely alaine Roberts; Brenda Belding Topping, now in florida; the beautiful Juanita Bernard, now in New york; Lindsey Barclay in Basel, Switzerland; and former head of the European Union, Ambassador Jim Moran, now in Cairo, Egypt.

And on Monday, the 27th, the partying continued as Zachary Harding; the fabulous Sheraine Murray; Tashawn Harrison, over there in Old Harbour, St. Catherine; William Pierce, now resident of South Beach, Florida; Elise Hyle, in Southfield, Miami; Shellian Bailey, now in Boston, Massachusetts; the lovely Kesi Gardner, now in Washington, DC; international hotelier Ron Droegmyer, in Chicago; and the lovely Faye Nelson, formely of Kingston, now in Birmingham, England sharing the same birthday.

On Tuesday, the 28th: Outgoing Indian High Commissioner Mohinder Grover celebrated his last official Jamaican birthday.

On Wednesday, the 29th, the following people celebrated: glamour puss Cecile Levee; supermodel Nell Robinson; Clinton Brown; the fab Sharyn Blake, over in Negril; Michael Andrew Gray; Kristina Newman-Scott, now in Hartford, Connecticut; and Donovan Reynolds, now in the UK, made it a special day of celebrations.

Peggy Quattro, over in Miami, Florida; Brandon Allwood, in Toronto, Canada; and Moses McKenzie, former chef of Hedonism III, now in Brampton, Ontario, Canada; all shared the same birthday!
