Can Patois lead to progress?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

All I can say in response to Glenn Tucker's column of Wednesday, August 29, 2012, titled 'Stop talking this 'teach Patois' nonsense!' is, "Well said!" As Tucker indicated, Jamaica, and indeed the West Indies, are NOT the remainder of the world. Unless we can all speak to and understand each other, nothing will be achieved.

Do not lose sight of the fact that the non-English speaking countries are all teaching their children English, complete with grammar, as it is spoken and understood. So press on with the local Patois and follow Jamaica's 'progress' in the next 20 to 40 years.
