MANDEVILLE, Manchester:ROHAN LEE is a young man who, through sheer determination and confidence in his ability, is steadily making strides in the career field of his choice: entertainment.
Lee, more popularly known as Leetal, hails from the cool hills of Mandeville in Manchester.
He disclosed that from a very young age, he knew that he wanted to become an entertainer.
"It was while attending prep (preparatory) school I got to love music," he said. "I was a member of the choir from I was in grade four. When I just started in the choir, I couldn't sing one bit, but I was determined to work at it with the help of my music teacher."
Leetal got a big confidence booster when, while attending prep school, his music teacher called him out in front of the other choir members.
"He called me out and told me to sing. After I sang, he said to the other members, 'You see how far he is coming from?'," Leetal related. "That really gave me a lift; I will never forget that day."
After leaving high school, even more determined to make it in the music business, he sought to learn about the field, including learning about music programmes on his first Apple computer, which he received as a gift.
"I wanted to be prepared for the business, so I also started learning things like the studio engineer work, the whole marketing aspect of it - things like that," Leetal explained.
He took his time and eventually built a home studio where he practises his skills as a deejay as well as builds his own rhythms. At times, as a means of earning money, he mixes music and facilitates recording sessions for established artistes and producers operating in Manchester.
Looking at Leetal, one might believe that he is a big-name artiste as he is known for portraying a star image in the way he dresses, in addition to his general mannerisms.
"You have to present yourself how you want people to see you. So if you want to be a star, you have to act like one," Leetal explained. "For me, it's a natural thing. Where I have things (under control) mentally, it will manifest itself physically."
Leetal is also a wizard when it comes to marketing himself. Using social media, his three Facebook accounts have just over 8,000 persons from around the world on his friends' list and fan page.
He also uses Twitter and YouTube. He also pens 'Leetal's Digest' online. Through this blog, he updates his fans and members of the music industry on the latest happenings in his career.
The young entertainer can also be seen at most of the top events around Manchester as well as at events in other parishes.
"The biggest shows at which I have performed since year is the Hague Agricultural Show and during Spring Break in Negril," Leetal disclosed. "I got some very good responses at those shows. It was very encouraging."
Strongly influenced by artistes such as Shabba Ranks, Bounty Killer, and Beenie Man, Leetal sees himself as a star in the future. "My drive for success comes naturally, and I know I am going to make it big in the near future," he said.
"Right now, I am promoting my new music video for a song called Playing With My Heart, a collaboration with female artsite Rae-Tay. So watch out for it!" Leetal added.
