LIVERPOOL, England (AP):

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says he may consider a move for Didier Drogba or Michael Owen after failing to sign an extra attacker before the summer transfer window shut.

Liverpool sent Andy Carroll on loan to West Ham on Thursday, leaving Rodgers with Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as his only senior strikers.

Liverpool are third from bottom after three games, including yesterday's 2-0 home loss against Arsenal.

The club lost out to Tottenham in attempts to sign US forward Clint Dempsey on Friday's deadline day.

Owen, a former Liverpool player, is a free agent after being released by Manchester United, and Drogba's future at Shanghai Shenhua is uncertain because of the Chinese club's reported financial problems.

Asked if he'd be interested in either striker, Rodgers said yesterday: "I can't say no. Any player I believe can improve the squad, I will look at."
