Dears, it's the hottest ticket in town, and this here scribe has two, so you know where the partying will be next weekend as, indeed, the National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica will be welcoming the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to this here fabulous island, for a two concert series that will see them in performance on Thursday, September 13 at NCU, over in Mandeville, and again on Saturday, September 15, at the recently restored Holy Trinity Cathedral, over there on North Street, in the heart of the nation's capital.
Darlings, talking about the cultural event of the season, pumpkins, it does not get any better than this, as the world-class orchestra will be performing in celebration of, and tribute to, Jamaica's 50th year of Independence, so y'all know we are talking haute culture here. And with works by Jamaican classical visionary Peter Ashbourne and groundbreaking UK-born Jamaican composer Shirley J. Thompson, being featured performers alongside the music of the master composers; and special performances by Jamaican violinists Steven Woodham and Naomi Reitzin, dears, we are talking a classical and sumptuous musical feast here and nothing but!
And dears, perhaps, the single most important element of this expected cultural outing is the fact that all proceeds from the concerts are in aid of the National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica's Music For Social Change programme, which provides free classical music training for at-risk Jamaican youth; and the fact that aspirants and aficionados will be afforded the opportunity to engage The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as the celebrated ensemble will play host to an open workshop on Sunday, September 16 for instrumentalists and vocalists.
