KINGSTON (CMC):

The Jamaica Government has called on the Barbados authorities to state how a 25-year-old Jamaican national died while in prison in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has requested a report from Barbados regarding the death of Deshawn George Campbell, who was serving a three-year jail term on drug trafficking charges.

Reports said that Campbell, who died last week Wednesday, had been complaining of feeling ill since July and was given painkillers while in the prison.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had received information that Campbell was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on September 3, after his condition deteriorated significantly.

It said it is also seeking a copy of the autopsy report.
