WESTERN BUREAU:

Grange Hill High defeated Petersfield 2-0 in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup rural area schoolboy football competition, with striker Akeem Shackelford netting a double.

With the win, Grange Hill lead a competitive Zone D alongside Manning's, who dismissed Little London 3-0 at the school ground in Savanna-la-Mar.

Shackelford opened the scoring in the 20th minute, beating two defenders before firing across the out-of-position goalkeeper Glaister McLeod and into the far corner of the net.

He doubled the lead 14 minutes later, easily slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Changes

Petersfield made a couple of changes in the second half to blunt Grange Hill's attacking force and were themselves somewhat unlucky not to score. The closest they went to scoring was a flashing header from Shane Bartley, which sailed just wide of the upright.

Meanwhile, 2003 champions Frome turned back Cambridge High 3-1 to share the early lead of the zone with defending champions Rusea's High.

The Aaron Lawrence-coached Manning's were in the mood for goals, scoring three to get past the visiting Little London, while in Zone H, Lennon edged Claude McKay one-nil.

Zone F is being led by Manchester High, after their 4-0 demolition of B.B. Coke, while Munro College drubbed Balaclava 4-0.
