THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to Lisa Hanna, minister of youth and culture.
Dear Ms Hanna:
This letter is to notify you about some issues that need to be addressed immediately as they relate to the participants of the National Youth Service (NYS) Corps Programme.
It's rather dissatisfying to see the poor performance of the NYS. It is concluded by participants that they are treated unfairly and that they are being put down by high authority.
Therefore, this states that they are not for the youths; as a result, the NYS will never succeed in uplifting young people. One official used negative words to a participant, and they are the ones to be uplifting youngsters?
Another concern is stipend payment for participants. They work from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and most fortnights they are not paid simply because someone suspended their accounts for one reason or the other, or they decide to just not put the names on the payment listing.
Some participants strongly believe that is highly unacceptable, and they ought not to be punished for the irresponsible, unprofessional and careless behaviour of the NYS.
Several attempts were made to correct these issues by means of speaking with some of the persons in charge. Unfortunately, the problem remains unresolved. I am hereby requesting your intervention for the sake of the participants in the following ways.
