As Jamaica celebrates its 50th anniversary of Independence, Jamaica National General Insurance (JNGI), a member of the JN Group, has launched its 'Big 50 Promotion' in which 50 new customers can win 50 per cent off their motor insurance.

JN General Insurance Company Limited, formerly NEM Insurance, is the longest established of all general insurance companies operating in Jamaica. The tradition of excellence dates all the way back to 1934.

According to Kaysia Johnson, retail and services manager at JNGI, the company came up with several ideas to mark the 50th anniversary celebrations, including the 'Big 50 Promotion'. She said the idea was developed bearing in mind that people are looking to save money.

"There is a stigma around insurance companies. Customers believe that some insurance companies are unkind and do not give back to them. We are trying to break that stigma by giving back to our customers," Johnson said.

New-customer offering

This new offer by JNGI is for new customers who do not have a policy with the company, or persons who are already customers but need a policy for a new car they have purchased.

"The promotion is two-fold. We want persons to see us as a company that cares and, at the same time, to increase our customer base. During this process, we will aim to satisfy the needs of our customers," Johnson said.

Meeting criteria

As with most promotions, there are certain criteria that must be met. Persons applying for the motor insurance policy must:

  • hold a driver's licence for more than one year;
  • not have had any accidents in the last three years;
  • have a vehicle that is registered as a private motor vehicle for private use only;
  • own a vehicle that is comprehensively insured;
  • have a vehicle that is insured for more than $750,000;
  • have a vehicle that is not more than 12 years old; and
  • the insured must be more than 30 years and under 70 years of age and employed.

"We may end up giving over $2 million in prizes. Also, if the customer has paid everything, we will send them a rebate cheque for 50 per cent," Johnson said.

The promotion will run from July 30 to September 30 with the grand draw scheduled for October 5. Persons can visit any JNGI location islandwide, fill out the entry form, and drop it in the box provided.
