Lucas, one of the country's oldest cricket clubs, will conclude their 'Lucas Week' activities with the unveiling of a bust of legendary West Indies cricketer George Headley today.

The unveiling will take place at 6 p.m at the club's Preston Road headquarters. Before that, there will be the mounting of a honour roll board and the playing of a Twenty20 double-header at the same venue.

According to Lucas president, Oneil Cruickshank, the unveiling of George Headley's bust is part of their efforts to rejuvenate the club, and make it the club of choice for many Jamaicans once again.

connecting with their past

"We want to connect with our past, as well as inspire future generations, and we believe the gesture is not just fitting, but timely, given the state of the club at this point in time and where we want to go," he said.

Among those expected to take part in the unveiling is George Headley's son, Lindy.

Meanwhile, the honour roll presentation, which will be overseen by Easton McMorris, a trustee of the club, will feature names of Jamaica and West Indies players who have represented the club.

Some of these players include Chris Gayle, Frank Worrell, Everton Mattis, J.K Holt, and Gareth Breese.

The Twenty20 matches will see Lucas taking on St Thomas at 2 p.m., after a 'Where Are They Now' outfit go up against St Elizabeth Masters at 10 a.m.

"What we want to do is continue the rich legacy of Lucas," explained Cruickshank.

"It has been run down over the years, but a group of us has decided that we cannot allow this to continue.

"Fortunately, we received some funds from the WICB as a result of Chris Gayle's participation in the Indian Premier League, and so far we have repaired the clubhouse, installed fixtures, rewired the facility, and installed some concrete pitches.

"Lucas Week, therefore, is another chapter in the proceedings, and we hope to make it an annual event," he added.

Lucas Week began with the hosting of a coaches corner workshop on Monday and a Kiddy Cricket nursery on Tuesday.

It also included a six-a-side inter-club competition on Wednesday and Thursday, and domino tournament, which was held on Thursday.
