Below are comments by readers on www.jamaica-gleaner.com in response to yesterday's lead story, 'This is madness: Child molested, believed pregnant for grand uncle'.

Poor child, scarred for life. Not surprised at the grand aunt's reaction at all, as I do believe that we women are responsible for many of the 'ills' that happen in our society. We protect our men at all cost. I have never been able to figure out what it is that causes us to do this. It has happened over and over and will continue to do so. It's a sad state of affairs not limited to any particular class or culture.

Have mercy, dear Jesus. What kind of man molests an 11-year-old? The breakdown of the family structure has gone from bad to worse. If this is true, then the grand aunt must also be arrested and thrown in jail. Many of these women cover up this type of slackness.

This type of silence is appalling. There are many women in Jamaica and elsewhere who have been molested by senior male relatives in their youthful years. Such persons, who have not had psychological treatment because they have hid their ordeal from authorities, would be more eager to turn a blind eye to such thing happening to a female child in their care.

In a sense they are desensitised to the ordeal of the new victim. If the grand uncle really did the crime, then most likely his wife knew about it. I also believed that if she knew about and failed to report it, that maybe she was also a victim of the same sexual assault as a child.

Five females, including an 8, 14, and 15 year old, were also raped in MoBay ... and you have people in Jamaica talking about uncle demon. What should one expect if we accept this kind of slackness as music? This is not the doing of ordinary man ... demons have been unleashed in Jamdown!

- Mi sah! no sah!

Please sentence this man to DEATH!
