See the highlights ...

Donovan Stanberry, permanent secretary, Ministry of Agriculture:

I don't eat meat but I have no problem saying I am a fan of Gloria's in Port Royal. I spend many hours away from home, so the quality and nutrition outside is important to me. We at the Ministry of Agriculture are placing emphasis on nutritious and economical locally grown foods.

Stephanie Scott, conceptualiser of Restaurant Week:

I don't have a favourite because I love the tapestry of tastes that comprise our cuisine. I love Majestic Sushi, Grog Shoppe, and many of the small places that open up all the time. I am proud of what Restaurant Week has done for the industry and for all the restaurants we have in Jamaica.

Everton Baker, chief public health inspector, Kingston & St Andrew:

The vast majority of people today are eating out because of the times we live in. People are getting value for money now; the quality of local food is superb. If the food is good and the ambience is right, word will spread but if the restaurant is clean at front and dirty at the back, customers will not return. My favourite eating places are the fast-food franchises and vegetarian restaurants.

Earle Stewart, food factory inspector, Bureau of Standards:

I look forward to Restaurant Week. My wife and I like to eat at TGIFridays but I must thank the operator of Grog Shoppe because that is what got me into Restaurant Week; we had the pleasure of dining there a couple years ago during Restauant Week.

Jacqui Tyson, proprietor, From Thought to Finish:

I love food, so I like to try new things at new restaurants. Being in the business, it's good to know what is happening. I like brunch at the Terra Nova, I like the menu at Chasers and I like the rustic street-side fare. I love the stuffed fish at Port Royal on Friday evenings or the great ackee and salt fish with roast breadfruit from Miss Cherry in Faith's Pen. My other favourites are Scotchies in Ocho Rios, the Pelican's milk shake and Indian food at Pushpa's.

Orine Henry-Blair, director of the regulatory division, Bureau of Standards:

I don't eat out a lot, just on special occasions but I prefer oriental dishes, so my favourites are Golden Bowl, Jade Gardens and Dragon Court.

Gloria Palomino, The Grog Shoppe, Devon House:

Apart from at home and at my restaurant, I like to go to Majestic for sushi to eat.
