Stay with Certify

The Newmarket autumn meet, which features the annual running of the valuable Cambridgeshire Handicap over nine furlong straight tomorrow, has its second day today.

In addition to Newmarket, racing is on at Haydock, Wolverhampton and the National Hunt course Stratford. There is also simulcast racing from Belmont Park in New York and Finger Lakes.

Meanwhile, a report coming out of England has suggested that safety concerns over the Grand National have forced the organisers to make modifications to the course following a review of the world's most gruelling race after two horses died this year.

However, while there will be changes to fence design, landing areas and course irrigation, the size of the field will remain at 40 horses. Also, Becher's Brook - the much-feared fence criticised for its severity - will keep the same drop and dimensions.

The changes announced will come into effect for the 2013 race. Ten horses have died in the past 12 years, sparking criticism from animal welfare groups.

Today, at Newmarket, we like the look of even-money favourite CERTIFY (Mickael Barzalona) in the Group I Shadwell Fillies' Mile (11th race) to be contested by seven starters. Godolphin's CERTIFY is unbeaten in three starts and ought to be followed.
