Not at all! I don't think the justice system takes sex crimes seriously.

Factual information on sex crimes is being ignored. Emotions are driving legislation. No practical solutions are being sought. The system is implementing laws to appease citizens instead of finding an effective method of prosecuting sex crimes.

'Parents upset about attack on Dunrobin teacher', Gleaner, October 2, 2012

When I was growing up, teachers were model citizens and authoritative figures in the community. It was unheard for a teacher's word to be questioned and also to be attacked by the students and members of the community, whose children they are literally raising and moulding to become decent and productive members of society.

I hope the teacher will be compensated by the State and the accused be caught immediately and given a stiff sentence in a maximum-security prison. When I read or hear of the shameful things happening in our little country, I shudder to think of the future for law-abiding citizens in our country.

What purpose do our politicians - or so-called lawmakers - serve? The attacks on our teachers got even more prevalent and brazen and our politicians have done nothing to strengthen legislation to send these offenders to prison.

Break-ins at schools and community property have increased, and yet again, our politicians have done nothing to curtail same. Rape, sexual offences with minors, and murders have increased, and still our politicians have only paid lip service to the citizens of the country. When will citizens demand action?

All visitors to the school should check at the main office. No one is to be allowed to go to the classrooms. All exchange is to be conducted at the main office; that is in keeping with best practices.

Clearly, the rule of law and order and discipline has broken down. If the reports are true, how did we get to the stage where a primary-school child can leave a classroom to 'make a call' to his/her friend or relative after being reprimanded?

The duncehead shows up and beats up the teacher.

Things are getting from bad to worse - in a year where we are celebrating 50 years of Independence and many are looking forward to the next 50 for our children and grandchildren. I think it's time to take a stand and say NO MORE! Citizens, it's time to say enough of the crime, senseless violence, economic ills that have many of us paralysed in our own country, let alone our homes.

This is our beautiful little island. We have so much going for us, but it's always overshadowed by instances such as the beating of our educators, raping of children and consistently for the last 10 years averaging 1,600 deaths per year from violent crimes.

We need United Outrage in our communities to weed out the bad apples, and the same energy and effort to put pressure on our elected officials to do the job we put them in office to do.
