It was lights, camera and action! The Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week 2012 kicked off in a blaze of camera lights and flashes as fingers danced across qwerty keyboards.

The gardens of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel was abuzz with the grandeur of things to come at the official launch last night.

There was no mistaking where you were or why you were there as soon as you entered the hotel. Chefs greeted you along the way to the spectacle that was to be. Over the years, Restaurant Week has grown and has spread not only to other towns across the island, but to other countries. Last year, it invaded New York with the participation of Miss Lily's, and this year, London, with the participation of chef Collin Brown's restaurant.

In true greetings from across the world style, the managing director of The Gleaner Company, Christopher Barnes, was in London with chef Brown, and Paul Salmon from New York also contributed to the launch via satellite.

And as the evening's launch progressed, live tweets were displayed on the jumbo screen that was smack in the middle of the action.

Restaurateurs, sponsors and prospective diners were caught up in the euphoria of what promises to be the best Restaurant Week to date. So save the date, November 9-17, and kick off your night or day at the restaurant of your choice with one or both of this year's special drinks, Spicy Special or Schweet. See you there!
